Yasser Arafat's Address to the United Nations General Assembly

"I have come bearing an olive branch and a freedom fighter's gun. Do not let the olive branch fall from my hand. I warn those who do not believe in peace. I call on the representatives of the peoples of the world to stand on the side of justice, to fight against aggression and racism, imperialism and Zionism. Today I have come with an olive branch of peace and the gun of a freedom fighter. Do not let the olive branch fall from my hand. Today I came as a man of peace bearing the olive branch, yet I repeat: do not let the olive branch fall from my hand."

Yasser Arafat, Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, address to the United Nations General Assembly, New York, 13 November 1974. Arafat was the first non-state leader invited to address the General Assembly. He wore military fatigues and his holster was visible.
