William of Orange's Declaration of Reasons

"We cannot any longer forbear to declare, that to our great regret we see that those Counsellors who have now the chief Credit with the King, have overturned the Religion, Laws, and Liberties of these Realms, and subjected them in all things relating to their Consciences, Liberties, and Properties, to Arbitrary Government. And that not only by subtle and indirect ways, but in an open and undisguised manner. It is in this Conjuncture, but with great reluctance, that We have been prevailed upon to come over into England, and to appear in Arms in it... We do, in the last place, invite and require all Persons whatsoever, all the Peers of the Realm, both Spiritual and Temporal, all Lords Lieutenants, all Gentlemen, Burgesses and all other Commons of all Cities and Towns, to come and assist Us."

William, Prince of Orange, Declaration of Reasons for appearing in arms in England, The Hague, 10 October 1688. William landed at Brixham, Devon, with an army of approximately 14,000 men on 5 November 1688 — deliberately chosen to coincide with Guy Fawkes Day.
